Ah, XXL's Freshman Issue. The "rising stars" of hip-hop. If you grace this cover, your career is made, right? Wrong. Sure, it helps to make it on the top 10 list, but it doesn't prevent you from being a one (or two) hit wonder. I'd like to touch on a few things that make me say "the hell?" when I look at this cover.
Kyle- He's got stage presence, a unique voice, and doesn't look like he just came out of a prison cell for beating his pregnant girlfriend. But his only recent hit is iSpy, and his last full length album was released in 2013. So why is he here, now?
Amine- Talk about one-hit wonder. "Caroline" was a stroke of genius, for sure, but his newer songs are almost unbearable. Oh, and he reeks live.
Ugly God- Here's a funny one. But the least funny part about this is that he can't rap. Let's see him create a career off of "Water."
XXXTentacion- I want to like him, I really do. "Look at Me" has all the potential, but why does he constantly have to scream? Besides the fact that his fan base consists of Tumblrcore "sadboys" and whoever produces his beats doesn't know how ears work, he also happens to be a criminal.
But hold up. Wasn't Famous Dex rejected from the list due to the video that surfaced of him beating his girlfriend? I don't know, ask Vanessa Satten.
P.S. shout out to Kamaiyah for reppin' the ladies and the Bay..... speaking of ladies, where is Young M.A.?
